The Mercantile Investment Trust announces Rachel Beagles and Damien Maltarp to its Board as upcoming Non-Executive Directors

– UK, London –  The Mercantile Investment Trust plc (LON: MRC) today announced the appointments of Rachel Beagles and Damien Maltarp to its Board as Non-Executive Directors of the Company with effect from 1st June 2021.

It has previously been announced that Helen James will be retiring as a Director at the conclusion of the Company’s Annual General Meeting in 2021. Jeremy Tigue will be retiring from the Board at or before the Annual General Meeting in 2022.

About Rachel Beagles

Rachel Beagles has over 15 years’ of experience in the investment company sector, including six years as an Association of Investment Companies board member, of which three were served as chair. She remains on the AIC Board, and is also a non-executive director of Witan Investment Trust plc and Gresham House plc. During the past five years she has also been chairman of Securities Trust of Scotland plc and a non-executive director of Aberdeen New India Investment Trust plc, and Blackrock Emerging Europe plc.

Mrs Beagles’ career has been based in financial markets, primarily in equity research and sales from 1990 until 2003. She was a managing director and co-head of the pan-European banks equity research and sales team at Deutsche Bank’s corporate and investment banking division, following a period as a director of Bankers Trust International. Since 2003, she has worked as a non-executive director in the investment company, asset management, charity and social housing sectors.

About Damien Maltarp

Mr. Maltarp is currently CFO of Enterprise, the UK business-to-business arm of BT Group plc. He is an executive with more than 20 years’ experience across a range of financial disciplines including operational and commercial finance, assurance, audit, investor relations and equity analysis.

He was previously CFO of Wholesale & Ventures at BT and also ran the Investor Relations team for a number of years before that. Prior to his executive career at BT, he spent 10 years as an equity analyst, including roles at JPMorgan Cazenove and Credit Suisse. He further has board experience, having served on the board of a number of BT subsidiaries.

Mr Maltarp is a qualified chartered accountant.
