Tesco announces Carolyn Fairbairn to join its Board as Non-Executive Director

– UK, Welwyn Garden City –  Tesco PLC (LON: TSCO) today announced the appointment of Carolyn Fairbairn to its Board as a Non-executive Director with effect from 1 September 2023.

“I’m delighted to welcome Carolyn to the Board as a Non-executive Director. As a highly regarded business leader with a deep understanding of the macroeconomic and political environment with significant experience across the media, government, and finance sectors, Carolyn will be a real asset to the Board,” said Board Chairman, John Allan.

Dame Carolyn will also join the Remuneration Committee and Corporate Responsibility Committee.

The Company also announced that Lindsey Pownall will not seek re-election to the Board at the 2023 AGM.

About Dame Carolyn Fairbairn

Carolyn Fairbairn is currently a non-executive director of HSBC Holdings plc, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Mencap Society, and an honorary fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and Nuffield College, Oxford.

Dame Carolyn served as the Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry from 2015 to 2020. She has been a Non-executive Director of Lloyds Banking Group plc, The Vitec Group plc, Capita plc, and BAE Systems plc. She has also served as a Non-executive Director of the UK Competition and Markets Authority and the Financial Services Authority and a Trustee of Marie Curie. Dame Carolyn held senior executive positions at the BBC and ITV, was a partner at McKinsey & Co specializing in digital and media, and was a Prime Minister John Major’s Number 10 Policy Unit member.
