– UK, London – Spire Healthcare Group PLC (LON: SPI) today announced the appointment of Professor Cliff Shearman as an Independent Non-Executive Director effective from 1 October 2020. He will also join the Clinical Governance and Safety Committee from 1 January 2021.

This appointment increases the number of Board members with clinical experience to four, strengthening Spire Healthcare’s clinical governance and reflecting our commitment to patient safety and clinical quality.
About Professor Shearman
Professor Shearman was a consultant vascular surgeon for 26 years and is currently Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons. Professor Shearman is a non-executive director at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch NHS Foundation Trust.
Professor Clifford Shearman qualified from Guys Hospital Medical School London University and trained in vascular surgery in Birmingham. He was appointed as a senior lecturer/consultant vascular surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham in 1990. In 1994 he moved to Southampton as an NHS Consultant Vascular Surgeon and in 1999 was appointed to the chair of Vascular Surgery at the University of Southampton.
Professor Shearman was Associate Medical Director for R and D in Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust. He was on the Council and Chairman of the Training and Education Committee of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and President of the Society (2009-10). He was head of the Wessex Post Graduate School of Surgery (2007-2012) and Chair of the Vascular Specialist Advisory Committee (2012-2015).
