– SWITZERLAND, Weinfelden – Lidl Switzerland today announced the appointment of Torsten Friedrich as CEO of the Swiss activities of the German discounter, effective from November 1st, succeeding Georg Kröll who will join the Lidl Foundation in Neckarsulm (Germany).
Georg Kröll will be responsible for various Lidl country markets, including Denmark, Finland, Greece & Cyprus, Italy & Malta, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland and Slovenia.
About Torsten Friedrich
Born in Leipzig, Torsten Friedrich has already been working for Lidl for 18 years and has held various management positions at Lidl International and Lidl Germany, among others. Until now, he has been Deputy Chairman of the Management Board at Lidl Austria and is looking forward to the new challenge in Switzerland.
Torsten Friedrich commented: “I am following in very big footsteps, but I am convinced that I can continue the positive development of Lidl Switzerland of the past years. During my previous employment at Lidl in Austria, I have been able to appreciate the advantages of the Alps and mountain worlds. The branch network is currently being modernized for the second time in five years and is geared to the future. Lidl Switzerland was also able to open a new, state-of-the-art headquarters in Weinfelden (TG) and expand its branch network by 50% resulting in an annually increasing number of customers and double-digit growth.
Lidl Switzerland has also made significant progress in terms of employment conditions and has provided significant impetus to the retail trade in recent years. Today, for example, the company already offers four weeks of paternity leave and 18 weeks of maternity leave – with 100% continued salary payment. Lidl Switzerland also offers the highest CLA-secured minimum wages in the industry and all employees – depending on age – 5 to 7 weeks’ vacation.
In 2015, Lidl Switzerland became the first discounter to enter into a partnership with WWF Switzerland, agreed on binding sustainability goals and has an ambitious sustainability strategy in addition to the WWF goals.
