Hudbay Minerals appoints Board member David Smith as new Chair of the Board of Directors

– CANADA, Toronto –  Hudbay Minerals Inc. (TSX: HBM / NYSE: HBM) announced the appointment of current independent director David Smith as Chair of the Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2025, succeeding Stephen A. Lang who remains on the Board as an independent director.

About David S. Smith

David Smith joined the Board as an independent director in May 2019, bringing nearly 40 years of financial and executive leadership experience in the mining sector. He has had a career on both the finance and the supply sides of the mining business, with extensive international experience in the acquisition, sale, development, financing, and operations of base and precious metal operations. David Smith previously served as CFO and EVP at Finning International Inc., a major equipment supplier to the mining industry. Before Finning, he held senior executive positions at Placer Dome Inc. and Ballard Power Systems and worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He is also a director and Chair of the Board of IAMGOLD Corporation and has extensive prior board experience with public mining companies.
