About John A. Hilton, Jr.

Mr. Hilton recently served as Senior Advisor to Brown Brothers Harriman’s Private Bank for the past six years. Before that, he held a nineteen-year tenure at Bessemer Trust, one of the world’s most legendary multi-family offices, serving as President and CEO for ten years. Before that, he was Managing Director for the Deerpath Group, Inc. of Lake Forest, Ill., and Executive Director for Merrill Lynch & Company’s Private Capital Group in Chicago. For 15 years he was with Citibank, spending four years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in senior positions as Head of Mining and Metals and Senior Credit Officer.

He presently serves as Director and Treasurer for The Everglades Foundation, which works to protect and restore America’s Everglades through science, advocacy, and education. Mr. Hilton is a formidable voice for Everglades restoration, which closely aligns with Chilton Trust’s mission of stewardship. As a member of the business community in Florida, Chilton Trust has been a long-standing partner helping The Everglades Foundation protect one of the world’s largest and most fragile ecosystems. The firm’s commitment and support to that mission also extend to other foundations and organizations they partner with throughout the country.

Mr. Hilton is a retired Trustee for the University of Vermont where he and others founded the University of Vermont Foundation. He was the Foundation’s second Chairman and continues to serve as a Board Member. He recently retired as Chairman of the Board of the Washington Center.
