Anglo American appoints Dr Mphu Ramatlapeng as a non-executive director

London – Anglo American plc announces the appointment to its Board of Dr Mphu Ramatlapeng as a non-executive director, with immediate effect.
Dr Mphu Ramatlapeng is an expert in the field of healthcare in Africa, with a particular focus on HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria in southern Africa. Mphu currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and as Executive Vice President of HIV and TB for the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Mphu was the Minister of Health and Social Welfare in the government of Lesotho from 2007 until 2012.

Dr Ramatlapeng will also join the Board’s Safety and Sustainable Development Committee with immediate effect.

Dr Mphu Ramatlapeng, age 60 and born in Lesotho, is a highly experienced leader with a broad range of domestic and international health and management experiences in the public and private sectors. As Executive Vice President of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis programmes for the Clinton Health Access Initiative, she is responsible for the development and oversight of organisation-wide strategies to combat these two diseases, while also serving as the Vice Chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Dr Ramatlapeng served as Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Lesotho between 2007 and 2012. In this role, she was responsible for the clinical, technical and financial management of the Ministry and championed Lesotho’s significant achievements in reducing the transmission of HIV from mother to child. Across her career, she has also been a leading advocate for women in business, including serving as founding Board Member of Women in Business in Lesotho.

Dr Ramatlapeng received her medical degree from Kharkov Medical School in Ukraine and obtained her Master’s degree in public health from John Hopkins University in the United States.
