– USA, NC – Piedmont Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) has elected Jo Anne Sanford to the Board of the Company effective July 1, 2014.
Ms. Sanford currently practices law in Sanford Law Office and is a partner in Blount Street Advisors, a governmental consulting firm where her focus is on regulatory and governmental policies that support sustainability in a low-carbon environment, infrastructure investment, water law, and broadband deployment. Both firms are in Raleigh.
Ms. Sanford previously served in the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office for 20 years and led the North Carolina Utilities Commission as Chair for ten of her eleven and a half year term on the Commission from 1995 – 2006. As a commissioner and as Chair, she earned national recognition as an expert in regulatory law and policy and served on the boards of several regulatory organizations including the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and the National Regulatory Research Institute.
An active member of the North Carolina State Bar, Ms. Sanford is a graduate of North Carolina State University and of theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Her professional and community contributions have been recognized in awards that include the State Bar Outstanding Government and Public Sector Attorney designation, the Distinguished Women of North Carolina Award for Public Service, the YWCA Academy of Women, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
