Malwarebytes welcomes Gary Steele to its Board of Directors

– USA, CA – Malwarebytes™, the leading advanced malware prevention and remediation solution, today announced the appointment of Gary Steele, CEO at Proofpoint, to the Malwarebytes Board of Directors.

“We are pleased to welcome Gary Steele to the Malwarebytes Board of Directors,” said Marcin Kleczynski, Malwarebytes CEO. “Gary’s deep expertise in the security software industry, and his proven ability increasing sales revenue, will be extremely important as Malwarebytes continues to grow its enterprise business. I look forward to the guidance and insights he will bring to the board.”

Steele currently serves as CEO of Proofpoint, Inc. and oversees corporate strategy and direction. As the founding CEO, Steele’s nearly 14 years of leadership has spanned the company’s successful 2012 IPO and 50+ consecutive quarters of growth at a 32% compound annual growth rate. With more than 30 years of enterprise software experience, he leads a global workforce of nearly 1,400 employees to ensure organizations and their users are protected across email, mobile and social media communication channels.

“This is an exciting time to be involved in the enterprise security software business,” said Gary Steele, CEO of Proofpoint. “As both endpoints and network access increase, companies are being involuntarily exposed to more threats than ever before. Malwarebytes understands that remediation is only part of a bigger security solution that needs to include anti-malware, anti-exploit, and anti-ransomware. I look forward to helping Malwarebytes grow their enterprise business to better compete on a global scale.”

Before joining Proofpoint, Steele served as the CEO of Portera, an applications company delivering solutions for the professional services industry. Under his leadership, Portera raised more than $100M in capital from some of the leading venture capitalists including Kleiner Perkins, IVP, and American Express, and grew the business from its initial concept to $20M in revenue. Prior to Portera, Steele served as the vice president and general manager of the Middleware and Data Warehousing Product Group at Sybase, Inc., an organization of more than 350 people, spanning four geographies and generating $150M in revenue. In this capacity, he initiated and spearheaded all new Internet projects targeted at the enterprise. Steele’s prior experience includes business development, marketing, and engineering roles at Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard. He holds a B.S. degree in computer science from Washington State University.
