Greene King announces Gordon Fryett to its Board as upcoming Non-Executive Director

– UK, Bury St Edmunds – Greene King plc (LSE:GNK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gordon Fryett to the board as a non-executive director with effect from 1st December 2016. He will also become a member of the audit, nomination and remuneration committees.

Gordon has many years’ experience in retail and property matters, having spent his career at Tesco plc, where his roles, prior to his retirement in 2013, included playing a leading role in Tesco’s expansion in the UK and overseas, the development and management of the group’s property portfolio and CEO of Tesco Ireland.

Gordon was also a non-executive director of Severn Trent plc from 2009 until July 2016 and is currently non-executive director of W. & J. Linney, Limited.

Philip Yea, chairman of Greene King, said: ‘I am delighted that Gordon has agreed to join our board. His extensive experience of retail and property will undoubtedly add value to our decisions as we develop Greene King over the coming years.’

Following the retirement of Ian Durant as a non-executive director at the annual general meeting today, his appointment in December will return the number of non-executives to five, including the chairman.

At the year end, it operated 3,035 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales and Scotland, of which 1,823 were retail pubs, restaurants and hotels, and 1,212 were tenanted, leased and franchised pubs. Its leading retail brands and formats include Hungry Horse, Farmhouse Inns, Chef & Brewer, Flaming Grill and the Greene King Local Pubs estate. 83% of the estate is either freehold or long leasehold

Greene King also brews quality ale brands from its Bury St. Edmunds and Dunbar breweries, and is the UK’s leading cask ale brewer and premium ale brewer. Its industry leading portfolio includes Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen, Abbot Ale and Belhaven Best.
