Brightstar appoints Arturo Osorio, Catherine Smith and Kazuhiko Fujihara to the Board of Directors

– USA, FL – Brightstar Corp. today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Brightstar President & Chief Operating Officer Arturo Osorio, Brightstar General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Smith, and Director of SoftBank Corp. Kazuhiko Fujihara to the Board of Directors, effective immediately.

The appointments come following the announcement of Brightstar Founder Marcelo Claure as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Sprint on Aug. 6 and his subsequent retirement from the Brightstar board of directors.

In other related board changes, SoftBank Corp. Chairman & CEO Masayoshi Son stepped down from the Brightstar Corp. board, succeeded by Ron Fisher, as previously announced, as the new Chairman of the Brightstar Corp. board. Rafael de Guzman, Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Advisor to the CEO, a member of the board since 2008, also stepped down from the board.

Representative Director and Senior Executive Vice President of SoftBank Corp., Ken Miyauchi, remains on the Brightstar board.

“Fujihara-san, Arturo and Catherine have been in the wireless industry for many years and have a deep understanding of the industry. We look forward to the insights and guidance they will provide to the Brightstar board,” Fisher said.

Fujihara is a member of the board of directors and Executive Corporate Officer of SoftBank Corp. with responsibility for the Corporate Planning and Global Business Synergies Divisions.

Osorio started with Brightstar more than 10 years ago and was most recently the President of Global Operations. Previously, he was the Regional President of Asia Pacific. Osorio has been instrumental to Brightstar’s growth, and now leads a strong mix of innovators, entrepreneurs and highly experienced executives at Brightstar. Osorio has led operations, finance, sales and business development teams, and he has filled vital roles throughout Brightstar’s evolution into a global services company.

Smith brings more than 20 years of legal experience, mostly in the wireless industry, and she is responsible for leading the global legal and human resource organizations with nearly 10,000 employees in more than 50 countries around the world. Smith has managed several major acquisitions since joining Brightstar in 2011.

Fisher joined the Brightstar board in January 2014. Fisher is the President of SoftBank Holdings, Inc., Vice Chairman of Sprint Corporation, and also a member of the board of directors of SoftBank Corp.
