Wolseley announces Darren Shapland to Board as Non-Executive Director

– SWITZERLAND / UK – Wolseley plc today announces the appointment of Darren Shapland to its Board as a Non Executive Director with effect from 1 May 2014.  Darren will also become a member of the Audit, Remuneration and Nominations Committees of the Board.

Darren, 47, has considerable operational experience and was previously Chief Executive Officer of Carpetright plc, Europe’s leading floor covering retailer, between 2012 and 2013.  Prior to that Darren’s career was with Sainsbury’s plc, the supermarket retailer, joining the Group in 2005 where he was Chief Financial Officer for five years before subsequently becoming Group Development Director in 2010.  He was also Chairman of Sainsbury’s Bank.  Previously Darren was Group Finance Director of Carpetright plc between 2002 and 2005 and prior to that he was Finance Director of Superdrug Stores plc between 2000 and 2002.  His previous career was with Arcadia Group Ltd where he spent 12 years in a variety of operational management and finance positions.

Darren is also a Non Executive Director of Poundland Group plc, the discount retailer, where he is the Senior Independent Director.  He is also a Non Executive Director of Ladbrokes plc, the bookmaker, where he is the Chairman of the Audit Committee.

Darren is a qualified chartered certified accountant.
