Tesco announces Byron Grote to its Board as upcoming Non-Executive Director

– UK – Tesco PLC is pleased to announce that Byron Grote will be joining the Board as a non-executive Director with effect from 1 May 2015.  He will bring extensive executive and non-executive financial and strategic experience to the Board.

Gareth Bullock has decided to take this opportunity to retire from the main Board to enable him to devote more time to his role on the board of Tesco Bank where he will continue as a non-executive Director.  This change will take effect from 5 March 2015.Byron Grote is currently a non-executive Director on the Boards of Unilever plc and Unilever NV, Anglo American plc, Standard Chartered plc and Akzo Nobel NV.  Having served nine years at Unilever, Byron will be stepping down from the Boards of Unilever plc and Unilever NV at the end of April 2015.

Byron spent nine years at Standard Oil of Ohio prior to it being acquired by BP plc in 1987. From 1988 to 2000 he worked across BP in a variety of commercial, operational and executive roles. He was appointed CEO of BP Chemicals and a Managing Director of BP plc in 2000 and subsequently CFO of BP plc from 2002 through 2011.  From 2012 to 2013 Byron served as BP’s Executive Vice President, Corporate Business Activities, with responsibility for the Group’s integrated supply and trading activities, alternative energy, shipping and technology.

Byron is a member of the European Audit Committee Leadership Network and an emeritus member of the Cornell Johnson School Advisory Council at Cornell University.  Byron holds a PhD in Quantitative Analysis from Cornell University.
