Satellite Solutions Worldwide appoints to its Board, Michael Tobin as Non-Executive Chairman and Paul Howard as Non-Executive Director

– UK, Oxfordshire – Satellite Solutions Worldwide Group plc (AIM: SAT), the global communications company specialising in rural, last-mile satellite broadband, announces the appointment of Michael Tobin as Non-executive Chairman and Paul Howard as Non-executive Director with immediate effect. At the same time Rodger Sargent will move from Non-executive Chairman to Non-executive Director.

Michael Tobin is a highly successful technology entrepreneur with over 30 years’ experience in the telecoms and technology sector. He was CEO of TelecityGroup plc, a leading FTSE 250 technology company, from 2002 to 2014, during which time the business grew from a market capitalisation of £6m, to a business with a market value of £1.6bn at the time of his departure. During Michael’s tenure as CEO, TelecityGroup made a number of acquisitions and expanded into new strategic markets, delivering EBITDA growth of over 690% from its IPO in 2007 to 2014. Prior to TelecityGroup, Michael held senior positions in companies including ICL and International Computer Group in Europe, as well as Pacnet in Hong Kong until it was sold to Telstra in 2015 for $800m.

While Michael holds various Non-executive positions at technology companies throughout USA, Europe, Africa and Hong Kong, SSW is currently his only UK plc directorship. He has won many national awards for technology and business and in 2014 he received the Order of the British Empire for services to the digital economy.

Paul Howard is an advisor to Oakley Capital Corporate Finance, having joined the business in April 2015. Paul spent over 15 years with Cazenove as a telecoms and media analyst and was one of Cazenove’s youngest ever partners. He won numerous awards from Reuters and Starmine and was head of the number one ranked European telecoms research team as ranked by the Institutional Investor in 2011. Paul left J.P. Morgan Cazenove in 2011 and became an investor and Non-executive director of various small telecoms companies.

Andrew Walwyn, CEO of SSW, commented: “I am delighted executives of the calibre of Michael and Paul have come onto our Board. They recognise the opportunity presented to our business by ever increasing consumer demand, government initiatives and necessity of access to the internet. Their experience and contacts within telecoms, technology and capital markets will be vital as we continue to build SSW into Europe’s pre-eminent satellite broadband provider.”

About SSW

SSW’s brand Europasat is Europe’s largest independent satellite broadband internet service provider, offering services to consumer and business users across Europe. With a track record of strong organic growth in its subscriber base and recurring revenues, the directors of the SSW believe there is a major opportunity to consolidate SSW’s organic growth with acquisitions throughout the fragmented European satellite broadband market.

Working closely with satellite owners and operators, SSW targets customers in the ‘digital divide’ with solutions that deliver up to 22 Mbps (rising to 30 Mbps later this summer) satellite based broadband services to almost any premises, whether residential, commercial or industrial across Europe, irrespective of location or local infrastructure.
