Northern Trust Canada appoints Robert Poirier to its Board of Directors

– CANADA, Toronto / USA, IL – Northern Trust (NASDAQ:NTRS) announced today that Robert Poirier has joined the board of directors for the Northern Trust Company, Canada.

Poirier has more than 20 years of experience in the banking and financial technology industry. He spent a total of nine years with State Street in Canada, most recently as managing director in the alternative investments servicing division.

Poirier is head of Canadian technology for European banks at Zafin. He is chairman of the board of PortsToronto and serves as an innovation advisor to several companies. Poirier has worked in senior positions with some of Canada’s largest firms and as a senior advisor to members of the Canadian Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce from 1992 until 1999 where he was involved in issues regarding institutional investor governance and the evolution of some of Canada’s largest public sector plans.

Poirier received a bachelor of business management degree (honours) from Ryerson.
