Netflix adds Anne Sweeney to its Board of Directors

– USA, NY – Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) on Monday named a former executive from The Walt Disney Co. and a current executive from Microsoft Corp. to its board of directors

The addition of Anne Sweeney, the former co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney’s ABC Television unit, could help strengthen the streaming television and video service’s ties to the world’s largest entertainment company. Sweeney stepped down from those roles in January.

Los Gatos, California-based Netflix also named Brad Smith, executive vice president and general counsel of Microsoft, to its board.

The additions increase the board to nine members.

“We look forward to benefiting from Brad and Anne’s perspective as we continue to build our global Internet TV network,” said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, in a statement.
