– USA, VA – Mike Ellis, corporate vice president, specialty pharmacy and infusion services for Walgreens, has been named the first president of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP)
“This is an exciting time for specialty pharmacy and I’m excited to work with my colleagues on this distinguished Board of Directors to advance NASP’s mission and create a stronger, more unified voice for all stakeholders,” said Ellis. “At Walgreens, we share NASP’s dedication to serve the needs of patients living with complex, chronic health conditions and support the pharmacists they work with on a daily basis.”
Before joining Walgreens in 2011, Ellis served as senior vice president of specialty trade relations and contracting and pharmaceutical services for CVS Caremark. He has more than 32 years of specialty pharmacy and infusion experience and has held senior-level industry positions at AdvancePCS, Olsten Health Services and Quantum Health Resources. Ellis is a licensed pharmacist and earned his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the University of Arkansas College of Pharmacy.
Walgreens, one of the largest national providers of injectable, infused and biopharmaceutical medications, joined NASP as a founding member last year. With an integrated, multi-channel model inclusive of local specialty and infusion services, Walgreens focuses on creating an optimal patient experience that supports improved health outcomes. Walgreens also offers pipeline insights, custom reporting and innovative clinical and utilization management programs to help payers manage costs.

The NASP Board of Directors elected Ellis during its October 14, 2013 meeting. He will serve a one-year term through October 2014.
