Jaunt announces Alex Taussig to its Board after raising $27.8M funding round led by Highland Capital Partners

– USA, CA – Jaunt, the company building the first full-stack hardware and software solution for cinematic VR, today announced a $27.8 million round of funding, allowing it to scale its technology and deliver the world’s most immersive omnidirectional 3D experiences to mass audiences. The Series B round is led by Highland Capital Partners with participation by Google Ventures. Existing investors Redpoint Ventures, British Sky Broadcasting (Sky), Peter Gotcher, and Blake Krikorian also participated in the round which brings Jaunt’s total funding to more than $34 million to date. As a part of the funding round, Alex Taussig, Partner at Highland Capital, will join Jaunt’s board of directors that includes Tim Haley, Partner at Redpoint Ventures, Peter Gotcher, Chairman of Dolby and DigiDesign Founder, and board observer Stuart Murphy, Director of Entertainment Channels at Sky.

Since Jaunt’s launch earlier this year, the interest in cinematic VR has exploded. Content creators in verticals from Hollywood to the travel industry are eagerly embracing this new medium to “transport” viewers inside movies, take them to faraway locations, and put them in the best seat in the house at sporting events and concerts. Jaunt is currently in production on a wide range of groundbreaking cinematic VR experiences. The company plans to use the new funding to meet the growing demand for cinematic VR from content creators in a wide variety of industries.

“The enthusiasm we have seen for our technology has been tremendous and we are working tirelessly to make VR experiences available to mass audiences,” said Jens Christensen, CEO of Jaunt.

Jaunt’s full-stack technology solution for cinematic VR delivers a completely new way to present and experience media. The Jaunt platform makes use of advanced, proprietary algorithms and computational photography software to enable the creation of seamless, omnidirectional 3D experiences.

“Jaunt has done something incredibly rare in creating a completely new platform for media and entertainment,” said Alex Taussig, Partner at Highland Capital. “With Jaunt’s fully integrated solution, the diversity of applications for cinematic VR is limited only by the imagination of the creative professionals pursuing it. I am thrilled to be joining the board of Jaunt and helping the company achieve its massive potential.”

In addition to Jaunt’s board of directors, Jaunt is supported by an impressive team of advisors including Babak Parviz, Vice President at Amazon Inc., Brad Wechsler, Chairman of IMAX, award-winning director Mark Romanek and Bernd Girod, Professor of Electrical Engineering, Stanford University, amongst others.
