EQtainment appoints Erica Buxton as new CEO

– USA, CA – EQtainment, an educational media company pioneering emotional intelligence (EQ) games and content, today announced the appointment of Erica Buxton as Chief Executive Officer. Erica Buxton spent the last decade as a leader in finance and strategy working on several iconic brands such as Barbie, Hot Wheels and Monster High.

“Erica’s years of experience working with global brand franchises in content, toys and technology is a priceless addition to the EQtainment team,” said Sofia Dickens, EQtainment founder. “Erica has a unique understanding of this industry, its evolution, and the challenges ahead, and we are excited to have her lead our efforts.”

Buxton joins EQtainment from Mattel, Inc, where she held a variety of senior positions in finance and strategy. Most recently, Buxton served as Head of Studio Partnerships for Mattel. An accomplished engineer with an MBA from Harvard Business School, she is also a veteran of the Boston Consulting Group, where she worked on everything from healthcare to consumer goods.

“Parents are becoming more aware of the strong correlation between EQ skills and future success in life, as well as improvement in social skills and behavior,” said Buxton. “I look forward to working with Sofia and our management team to build EQtainment’s portfolio that will provide parents simple, effective and entertaining tools to aid in developing their children’s emotional intelligence.”

Three of EQtainment’s products, Q’s Race to the Top Boardgame, Q-Time Buddy and Q’s on the Go Pack were recently honored with the Tillywig Brain Child Award for exciting products that energize the mind while seamlessly blending fun and learning. Earlier this year, Q’s Race to the Top Boardgame, was recognized as a Parent’s Choice Recommended toy as well as winning the Mom’s Choice Award, and recently, founder Sofia Dickens was nominated for the Rising Star Award by Women in Toys.

“We are on the front of a paradigm shift in how parents parent and teachers teach,” Dickens said, “and our mission is to make EQ fun and simple.”

About EQtainment

EQtainment was founded in 2014 by Sofia Dickens, a Harvard educated mom of three who spent her career in educational media, most recently as a video correspondent with the Emmy Award winning quiz show Jeopardy! Dickens could not find content and games to teach her own children emotional intelligence, so she spent years designing and developing products that were simple, fun, and affordable for any mom. She and her husband Reed, former White House spokesman and consumer brand entrepreneur, launched EQtainment and immediately achieved national distribution in Target and will soon be in retailers nationwide.
