EPRA appoints Gerard Groener as new Chairman of the Board

Paris, FRANCE – The European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) has appointed Gerard Groener as Chairman, the industry body announced at its annual conference in Paris on Thursday.

Groener is CEO of Dutch listed retail real estate investor Corio and replaces outgoing Chairman David Atkins, CEO of Hammerson.

Outgoing EPRA Chairman David Atkins said: “Gerard Groener is an experienced and seasoned CEO and knows the markets and players in the listed real estate industry in Europe intimately. I’m certain that he will do a great job in his two-year term. EPRA needs to keep a sharp focus on its investor relations capabilities, which have been strengthened significantly in the last few years, to attract global capital into the European industry and ensure its relevance for domestic and international investors into the future.”

Gerard Groener has been active in the property business since 1985 working for investors, builders, and developers. For the last 17 years he has been with Corio, starting as managing director for the Netherlands in 2001 after the company was formed from the merger between Winkel Beleggingen Nederland and VIB. Groener joined the Corio board in 2006 and took over the role of CEO in 2008. His interests include trends in consumer behaviour related to demographic and technological development.
