– USA, NY – DWNLD today announced that it has received $12M from Greylock Partners to scale its App Maker business to new verticals and develop further multi-screen publishing and monetization tools for content creators. DWNLD’s App Maker easily and automatically generates fully branded, highly customizable native apps for both iOS and Android, for users who don’t have any previous coding experience.
DWNLD launched their App Maker product one year ago and has achieved rapid publisher adoption since, powering thousands of live apps for media companies, YouTube stars and individual bloggers.
“Now that we’ve proven demand for a simple, premium quality mobile app solution in the media space, we’re taking the value proposition to all categories,” said Co-Founder and CEO Alexandra Keating. “And in launching a completely free subscription tier we’ve created an environment where absolutely anyone can have an app. There are no longer barriers of price, technical resources, or difficulty.”
DWNLD’s publishers have generated significant revenue from their native apps, a benefit DWNLD plans to expand upon by launching more tools centered on engagement and monetization.
“As people consume content on ever-more screens and devices, our opportunity to help publishers optimize their user experience and revenue mix continues to grow,” added Keating.
“The online world is now primarily experienced through mobile, and the DWNLD team has built an easy way to make highly interactive, custom, beautiful native apps. This allows creators to connect with their fans and consumers far more than ever. The early success of DWNLD’s App Maker product shows publishers and consumers alike are responding to the powerful engineering and intuitive design,” said John Lilly, Partner at Greylock. John Lilly led Greylock’s investment in DWNLD and is joining the Board.
Reid Hoffman, Partner at Greylock added, “As web-usage continues to shift from desktop to a mobile first, multi-screen, and fully networked landscape, the opportunity to facilitate the transition for publishers is massive.”
Fritz Lanman, angel investor, DWNLD Co-Founder and Executive Chairman said, “DWNLD’s mission is to make publisher content fast and beautiful for end-users – regardless of screen size, connection quality or content genre. We are excited to partner with a venture firm as storied as Greylock, John Lilly and Reid Hoffman specifically, to continue to deliver delightful content experiences for publishers and their readers alike.”
