Cognosante welcomes Senator Bill Frist to the Board of Directors

– USA, VA – Cognosante, a leading provider of health IT services, announced that Senator Bill Frist, M.D., has joined its Board of Directors.

“Cognosante has embarked on an ambitious journey to help advance the national healthcare transformation agenda through the use of technology,” Senator Frist said. “It is with great enthusiasm that I join the Board to provide guidance and leadership to this growing company.”

“Bill Frist is one of the most influential healthcare practitioners and policy experts in the country,” Cognosante CEO Michele Kang said. “As both a nationally recognized surgeon and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, he is uniquely qualified to discuss the challenges in health care and developing solutions leveraging information technology. His expertise and experience adds great depth to our Board.”

Senator Frist represented Tennessee in the U.S. Senate for 12 years, serving on both Health and Finance committees responsible for writing health legislation. He was elected Majority Leader of the Senate having served fewer total years in Congress than any person chosen to lead that body in history. Under his leadership as Senate Majority Leader, Congress passed the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act in 2003.

He currently serves on the boards of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Kaiser Family Foundation, Bipartisan Policy Center, Harvard Medical School Board of Fellows, Theranos, Select Medical Corporation, Teladoc, and AECOM. Senator Frist is also a partner at Cressey & Company, a Chicago-Based private equity firm focused on the healthcare industry.
