BetterWorks adds John Doerr, Bing Gordon and Joe Lonsdale to its Board after raising $15.5M Series A funding

– USA, CA – BetterWorks today unveiled its enterprise goals platform, designed to help businesses engage, empower and cross-functionally align their workforces. The company also announced a $15.5 million Series A round of funding led by John Doerr and Bing Gordon of Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers, with participation from Joe Lonsdale from Formation 8, and seed funding from AME Cloud Ventures and Pejman Mar Ventures. Doerr, Gordon and Londsale joined the company’s Board of Directors, along with Shona Brown, Googler Emeritus, and Jason Lemkin, former VP of Adobe and CEO of EchoSign. Advisors to BetterWorks also include Laszlo Bock and Deep Nishar, who led several key operations roles at Google and LinkedIn.

The BetterWorks platform is inspired by the OKR model (Objectives and Key Results) that Doerr pioneered at Intel and implemented early on at Google. “Ideas are relatively easy, but execution is everything,” said John Doerr, General Partner at Kleiner Perkins. “BetterWorks helps companies of all sizes from 20 to 20,000 employees achieve operational excellence by offering a simple and powerful platform that aligns teams on what matters most, tracking progress and celebrating success.”

By applying the latest Goal Science™ thinking, BetterWorks has evolved Doerr’s approach for today’s mobile and millennial workers, creating an enterprise software solution that scales the process for businesses everywhere. Designed to foster openness, aspirational goal-setting, engagement and alignment for both individuals and companies, BetterWorks adapts to the needs of today’s measurement and metrics driven culture by providing real-time feedback and powerful insights on how work gets done. By allowing users to set their own goals and executives to track individual and overall employee progress throughout the quarter and year, companies can identify problem areas and dynamically adjust priorities to stay competitive.

“So many tools out there become business inhibitors rather than business accelerators. We believe that BetterWorks can actually accelerate our business by providing transparency, accountability and driving crisp execution against our business goals,” said Margie Mader-Clark, VP of HR for Lookout. “From the individual to the company level, BetterWorks allows for a lightweight way to track critical business initiatives, and ensure that each is resourced properly and set up for success.”

BetterWorks was co-founded by Kris Duggan, former CEO and founder of Badgeville, along with engineering and customer success leads Di Wu and Paul Reeves. Duggan is an expert in helping brands increase user engagement by leveraging proven techniques in behavioral science and loyalty through data and analytics. Prior to Badgeville, he held leadership roles at a variety of successful SaaS companies, including WebEx. Previously, Wu was at Palantir Technologies and Reeves at Badgeville.

“Our business saw explosive growth at Badgeville, and like any company in that position we learned the challenges of implementing and scaling a goal-setting system,” said Kris Duggan, CEO and Co-Founder of BetterWorks. “I’ve spoken with hundreds of Fortune 1000 leaders that share similar frustrations with aligning goals across their enterprises that ladder up to overarching objectives. These experiences motivated me to start BetterWorks and develop a powerful solution that gives visibility on what’s most important to the business while driving employee engagement.”

During nine months of stealth operations, BetterWorks has signed on some of the fastest growing companies in Silicon Valley and traditional Fortune 1000 businesses throughout the country, including Bluenose Analytics, Edmunds, Lookout, Lumeris, UpWind and the US Department of Health and Human Services.
